Vanilla Simple Syrup
Studying abroad in Tokyo in 2005 was the first place I saw tiny packs of simple syrup given out with coffee. Liquid sugar that dissolved instantly in your coffee, whether hot or cold. GENIUS. How have I never thought of this?
Since then, I’ve seen tons of coffee shops begin to put out bottles of simple syrup or agave nectar to sweeten drinks. Turns out, it’s super SIMPLE to make yourself at home. Plus, it makes making your at-home coffee that much more FANCY PANTS.
Adding a vanilla bean adds a nice, subtle vanilla flavor. Save some money and order your vanilla beans on Amazon! You can get like 30 beans for like $15, as opposed to 2 beans for $10 at the grocery store. You can also make homemade vanilla sugar and vanilla extract.
Ingredients

You can also use a 1:1 ratio of water to sugar, but increasing the sugar will keep the syrup from going bad as fast since sugar is shelf stable and doesn’t spoil.

Add one shot of vodka. The vodka apparently makes the simple syrup not go bad as quickly. SURE, WHY NOT.
