I’m not a huge movie goer.  I LOVE TV SO MUCH.  But over the winter holidays, in anticipation of the movie Silver Linings Playbook, I downloaded The Silver Linings Playbook book, which the movie was based on, to read on the kindle.  I liked it a lot!  I also read The Art of Fielding over the holidays, but liked Silver Linings much more.

I was looking forward to seeing the movie, especially after it was announced that it is nominated for Best Picture this year at the Academy Awards.  Husband and I don’t go see movies very often, maybe once every couple months, so we actually planned a day to watch the movie.  We are big fans of eating while watching movies (STEAMED HOTDOGS SO GOOD), so Husband originally wanted to try one of those Studio Movie Grill-type theaters where you can eat an entire sit-down meal while watching your movie.  After some debate, we decided we didn’t want to risk having to eat gross “Applebee’s” food and settled on a regular movie theater.  I then had the BRILLIANT IDEA to buy Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches and sneaking them into the theater.

After buying our sandwiches, I packed them into an airtight ziploc freezer bag which served the dual purpose of (1) keeping the smell inconspicuous and out of my purse, and (2) to slightly “steam” and soften the sandwiches before the movie.  We can’t be all crunching on our baguettes during the movie!

And it was glorious.

Ironically, even though we thought we were being slick by bringing in our own movie snacks, since we watched the 2pm matinee show, there were probably only 25 people in the theater with us, 80% of which were over the age of 65 and brought in their own food from home as well.  Old ladies dun curr.

There’s a place in Houston that does that too! Well, only 1 fried egg. Can’t believe more places don’t do it!

I sneak food in to the movie theatre all the time! The BF and I usually go on Tuesdays (half price!) where we sneak in KFC (Toonie Tuesdays!!) and canned pop or drinks from home.

hi tramanh! how are you! this is sophia (hyf)… i’m not a fashionista (far from it) but i really enjoy your commentary. when i read this post i wanted to “like” so many things about it…

i have yet to read “silver linings playbook” but actually when the book first came out in 2008 i had actually gone to an author talk and heard the author share an excerpt from the book when he was on a book tour. i enjoyed his writing then so i bought the book, then who knew that a few years later a movie would come out on the book. so i hope to read it and then watch it now that you’ve recommended it. (the book has just sat on my shelf all this time).

and i recently went to a movie a month or so ago and snuck in bank mi to eat before the show as well. hahaaha. when i read that comment on your blog i thought that’s so funny because when i did it i thought i was a genius too. lol!
